The process of breed formation in sheep breeding doesn’t stand still
Stavropol scientists: Professor of the Department of Private animal husbandry and breeding, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vasily Moroz and director of the Research Institute of sheep and goat breeding, Doctor of Biology, Professor Marina Selionova took part in the work of the expert committee for approval and approbation of Zhegulaysky type of Aga breed.
The Commission noted the high level of breeding work of colleagues - specialists of ACF named after Lenin in the village of Zugalay when creating intrabreed type of sheep. In the conditions of the Trans-Baikal Territory, a new meat type of sheep of the half-coarse-fleeced Aga breed with meat productivity exceeding the standard by 12-15% was developed.
Today, it is clear that the efficiency and competitiveness of the domestic sheep are dependent on scientific advances in breeding, fundamental and applied research in the field of preservation of the gene pool of breeding sheep and creating new breeds. And significant contribution of Stavropol scientists to the development of this direction should be noted.
