RAS academicians discussed topical issues of ecology of the region

The rector of Stavropol State Agrarian University, Academician Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhacheva was visited by the famous Russian scientist, politician and public figure - Academician, Hero of Socialist Labor Mikhail Chokkaevich Zalikhanov.

A native of Kabardino-Balkaria Republic, dedicated his life to the study of problems of geology, geophysics and environmental Michael Chokkaevich Zalikhanov is the legendary champion of the USSR in mountaineering, has made 156 ascents on Elbrus. Previously, he headed the State "Mountain Geophysical Institute" (Nalchik) and was a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Currently he is Honored Professor of 26 universities around the world, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, PhD, Professor M. Ch. Zalikhanov concerned about the serious environmental problem of our region - the Caucasian Mineral Waters, which his students are studying and which threatens the loss of the unique deposit Tambukansky dirt, which forms the basis of mud in the resorts of South of Russia. Therefore, the meeting of two academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences was devoted to discussion of topical environmental issues associated with a significant degradation of the complex of lakes - Small and Big Tambukan located on the border between the Russian Federation - the Stavropol Territory and the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria.
