Excursion "Stavropol during the Great Patriotic War" marked the opening of the SSAU tourists Club
Excursion "Stavropol during the Great Patriotic War" marked the opening of the SSAU tourists Club, which took responsibility for organizing most of the University outdoor events.
Students of the Faculty of Social and Cultural Service and Tourism acquainted with the memorable places associated with Nazi occupation of Stavropol in the period from August 1942 to January 1943.
The first object of the tour was the main building of the agricultural university, where a military hospital functioned during the war. Students also visited the Memorial "Kholodniy Rodnik", established in memory of the victims who were tortured and executed by the Nazis during the occupation.
The sculptural composition of "Fire of Eternal Glory" Memorial symbolizes the heroes of the Civil War and the Great Patriotic War, as well as women-defenders of the home front. Here the guide told the students about the peculiarities of the fascist regime establishment in Stavropol, conversion of time for "Berlin" and the curfew.
Near the tombstone of General of the Army, the hero of the Great Patriotic War Iosif Apanasenko they talked about the Far Eastern Front, which was commanded by the famed Stavropol resident, who died during battles near Belgorod on August 5th, 1943 as deputy commander of the Voronezh Front.
The final object of the excursion trip was the memorial on a communal grave in one of the oldest cemeteries in the regional center – Danilovsky cemetery. Here the participants paid tribute to the heroes who participated in the liberation of Stavropol. Among them there is Gennady Golenev whose name is given to one of the streets of our city. This boy was brutally tortured by the Nazis for committing sabotage before the German retreat from the city. Also, in the cemetery there is a tomb of Ivan Bulkin, who led a small group of volunteers first entered the city on the night of January 21, 1943 and sowed panic in the ranks of the German occupiers. In honor of this Red Army soldier one of the streets in the center of our city is also named.
For the tour the university provided a bus to the club. This allowed to explore the main attractions of military subjects in three hours. In the future the geography of tourist trips will expand due to visit natural and cultural heritage of the Stavropol Territory and the North Caucasus region.
