Students of SSAU revived historical events of January 1943
The SSAU hosted a conference dedicated to the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Stavropol from German fascist invaders.
At the conference students of accounting and finance and electric power Faculties took part, and World War II veteran, chairman of the veterans of the Leninsky district Pyotr Kurolesov, a veteran of the armed forces, the deputy chairman of the Council of veterans of the Leninsky district Evgeniy Sereda were involved.
The SSAU rector V. Trukhachev welcomed the participants and wished veterans good health, prosperity and peaceful sky. "The names of those who defended and freed our country from the enemy will remain in our memory forever. Their courage and heroism, selfless devotion to the Motherland are true a guide for new generations today. In the university campus an obelisk «Eternal glory to the students, faculty and staff of Stavropol Agricultural Institute fallen in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945» was constructed. This is our tribute to the heroes", - Vladimir Trukhachev emphasized.
On January 21st, 1943 military forces of the 347th Infantry Division of the 44th Army freed Stavropol, occupied by Nazi troops from August 1942. For five and a half months, around 5,500 civilians were killed, tortured, gassed, schools, bakery plants, businesses and vital facilities were destroyed.
1 st year students of the electricity Faculty Edakaev A., V. Medvedeva made reports about the participation of Stavropol residents in the battles of the Great Patriotic War. WWII veterans told the stories of their battle youth to the students. They pointed out courage and heroism of soldiers of Transcaucasian Front units, the heroic struggle of partisans and underground fighters, who did not let the enemy to go further Kurskiy and Neftekumskiy districts of Stavropol region. Soviet army disrupted the attempt to capture of Baku oil, fertile lands of Stavropol, and exit to the Black Sea ports.
