In the company of Olympians

The sports complex of the Stavropol State Agrarian University hosted a meeting of eminent athletes - students and graduates of the university – with the chairman of the committee of the Duma of Stavropol Region on culture, youth policy, physical culture and mass media, the president of the Olympic Council of Stavropol Reguion Elena Bondarenko, rector of the university Vladimir Trukhachev, director of the cinema "Octyabr" Anna Sheludchenko and future champions - students taking their first steps in the big sports.

The reason for the meeting served the premiere of a new Russian film "Champions: Faster. Higher. Stronger "about outstanding athletes: wrestler Alexander Karelin, gymnast Svetlana Khorkina and swimmer Alexander Popov, - which will be held next week.

Each hero of the film had his own way, his own unique dramatic story of the ascent to the highest sports titles – Olympic champion. They became legends of world sport and enabled the whole country to say, "We won!".

The same can be said of the meeting participants. Among them are Olympic champions and their coaches, world champions, young promising athletes, winning gold awards at the Universiades and student sports.

- At the Agrarian University meet the best athletes. All these outstanding athletes are studying or studied here. We live next to the legends! - Olena Bondarenko said.

- We have 46 masters of sports. The participants are the master of sports of international class, honored master of sports - an example for young people. We are proud of them, and all Russia is proud! - Continued the conversation rector of the SSAU V.I. Trukhachev.

The delegation of meeting participants examined the sports complex of the University, which occupies 4000 square meters. At the initiative of the rector of the SSAU V.I. Trukhachev in 1999 began a complete reconstruction of the complex. Eight specialized rooms were equipped with modern plasma screens and information boards. This made it possible to provide high-tech support classes and competitions in table tennis, aerobics, weightlifting and powerlifting, fitness, boxing, athletics, wrestling. At the same time in the SSAU great games room appeared, equipped with modern facilities for volleyball, basketball and mini-football and boasting stands for 300 seats. This room is called the pearl of the University’s Sports Complex.

-So strong base, there is not probably in any university in the south of Russia, - says the graduate of the faculty of agrobiology and land resources, honored master of sports for weightlifting, winner of the World and European Championships, winner and champion of the international tournament "Cup of the President of the Russian Federation", member of the Russian national team David Bejanyan. – Sports base of the SSAU meets all standards and requirements of the European standards. And as for weightlifting and equipment it is all at the highest level. There are created excellent conditions for students to receive excellence and knowledge, and to achieve high results in the sphere of sports.

Guests and athletes visited the wrestling hall, hall for team sports, weightlifting, athletics and fitness modules, boxing hall. The complex is never empty - there compete, train, communicate students. The delegation observed the training process, and the future sports "stars" were able to communicate with the champions. On the questions of the students what reward left in the life the most powerful track and what the recipe for success in achieving the goal is, the Olympic boxing champion, medalist and world champion and European champion, honored master of sports Rakhim Chahkiev said:

- The greatest triumph is the Olympic gold. The feeling when you become an Olympic champion, I want to experience again and again. And how to get things done? Do not be afraid to start over.

Master of the faculty of agrobiology and land resources, master of sports of international class in weightlifting, champion of Russia Andrei Pavlenko continued:

- Our university is known worldwide. The athletes, who have a great base, praise it. But it is very important that the university also allows you to develop and to manifest yourself in the scientific activities and cultural life.

The president of the Olympic Council of Stavropol Region Elena Bondarenko and director of the cinema "Octyabr" Anna Sheludchenko handed the honored trainers and masters of sports tickets to the motion picture "The Champions: Faster. Higher. Stronger".

In conclusion the rector of the university V.I. Trukhachev thanked the athletes and coaches and wished them success and high achievements and the conquest of the sports Olympus.
