Under the guidance of experienced teachers the future agrarians find out how to apply environmentally friendly plant protection technology and they try to know the main thing - what to begin with.
Selection and seed breeding are in the basis of crop science of the country. A variety of crop protection technologies are used for consistently high yields. But before you use any of them, you need to find out: what is quality of used seeds? The Agrarian University undergraduates to strive to master this ability, during practice-oriented course in "Agronomy Plant Protection method" under leadership of Anna Petrovna Shutko, head of the Chemistry and Plant Protection Department.
"The quality of the seed is the basis for the passage by the plants of the first critical period of development and the formation of such a fundamental element of the crop structure as plant density, - explains the doctor of agricultural sciences A.P. Shutko. - Students enrolled in the program "Eco-friendly plant protection technology", mastered the macroscopic method of seed fito-inspection at Tropova scale. Laboratory lesson in the form of a workshop allows them to gain the necessary skills of seeds fito-inspection, which provides information for decision-making on planning of agrotechnical and protective measures. Namely, choose the optimum sowing date, seeding depth, seed rate and make the right decision about choosing a fungicide for pre-treatment of seed. "
During next lesson, students analyzed the seeds in relation to "black embryo" infection, the causative agent are imperfect fungi of Bipolaris and Alternaria genera; students determined the percentage of seeds with varying degrees of infection, the proportion of infected seeds, and then they discussed the measures of curing the identified disease.
