The technology of growing vegetables on aeroponics, at the initiative of the Stavropol State Automobile Inspection, was used during the 62nd Russian Antarctic Expedition.
Successes in the cultivation of vegetables without the use of soil shared Stavropolian Kyril Zorya, a participant of the 62nd Russian Antarctic Expedition. According to the forwarder, it is forbidden to import soil to Antarctica, but it was possible to grow vegetables "from the air" thanks to biotechnological developments and equipment of scientists from the Stavropol State Agrarian University.
Earlier, the SSAU representatives proposed an aeroponic method for obtaining cheap but high-quality potatoes. Last year, Ivan Chuksin, a postgraduate student at the Agrarian University, specializing in the cultivation of vegetable crops in this way, became a resident of Skolkovo.
And now for the first time at the Russian Antarctic station "Progress" during the 62nd RAE, with the support of the Stavropol GAU, the expedition members carry out the cultivation of vegetable crops on hydroponics. And the permafrost is not a hindrance!
