SSAU master student is one of the best at Russian contest for the best research project

The results of the final of the All-Russian competition for the best scientific work among students, graduate students and young scientists of the universities of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation were announced at Volgograd State Agrarian University on May 26th. Representatives of 15 agrarian universities competed in the nomination "Environmental management and water use".

The event was opened by the welcoming address of vice-rector for scientific research Viktor S. Bocharnikov and Olga Kulagina, dean of the faculty of ecology and melioration of Volgograd State Agrarian University. They greeted the participants and told about the rules of the competition.

The expert commission that assessed scientific projects of young researchers in the field of environmental management and water use included leading scientists in this field: Professor Viktor Borodychev, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Alexander Pakhomov, PhD in technical sciences, representative of the profile FUMO; professor Igor V. Olgarenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Technospheric Security, Land Reclamation and Environmental Engineering of the Novocherkassk Engineering and Reclamation Institute named after A.K. Kortunova; Alexey Gusev, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Head of the Department of Land Management of the Ural State University of Automation; Yulia Mandra Candidate of biological sciences, associate professor of the Department of Ecology and Landscape Construction of Stavropol State Agrarian University; Natalia Ivanova, PhD in Economics, Volgograd State University.

The participants of made various scientific projects on their subject: on wastewater treatment technologies, reforestation works, development of designs and technical solutions, optimization of water consumption, application of GIS technologies in monitoring the quality of springs. According to the results of the competition, Alla Perzhinskaya, master student ("Ecology and Nature Management" program) took the III place. She presented the results of the research project "The use of phytoremediation in the conservation and restoration of small rivers of the urbanized territories of the Stavropol Upland" supervised by Svetlana Okrut, PhD in biological sciences, assistant professor. The expert commission noted the importance and urgency of this scientific project and Alla told about her wish to continue her research as the candidate's thesis.
