This unprecedented number of awards is evidence of the tireless work of the collective of one of the flagships of agrarian education in Russia and their desire to achieve high quality indicators in various directions of the university's activity and, of course, concern for key personnel and the rank and file representatives on the part of the authorities.

In favor of the scientific breakthrough

V. Yu. Morozov, Professor, Vice-Rector for research and innovation activities, addressed the members of the Academic Council of the Stavropol State University with a report on the results of research and innovation activities in 2017, and it was one of the main issues of the meeting. It was stressed that during the reporting period the university achieved significant results, which, for example, is evidenced by the leading position of the Stavropol State Agrarian University in the rating of Russian agrarian universities by RIA Novosti.

The scientific and practical journal "Herald of the agrarian and industrial complex of Stavropolia", published by SSAU, entered the updated list of State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, it’s on the 28th place out of 172 journals in the Sience Indeх rating on "Agriculture". The result of participation of 300 employees of the university in more than 100 exhibitions of different levels: 67 gold, silver and bronze medals, as well as the Grand Prix of the largest exhibition "Agrorus", 124 protection documents for inventions, utility models, and certificates for computer programs were received.

Young researchers, who demonstrated scientific ambitions, actively showed themselves. Among them are the students who took the Grail of the Vavilov Olympics and the winners of the All-Russian intellectual game "The Beginner Farmer", 5 winners of the "UMNIK" program, 7 winners of the All-Russian competition for the best scientific work among students, graduate students and young scientists of the universities of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation. Three young scientists of SSAU Agarkov A.V., Samoilenko I.V., Kireev I.V. are the holders of the grant of the President of the Russian Federation for 2018-2020. Three other scientists, carrying out advanced research and development in priority areas of modernization of the Russian economy, Pavlyuk RV, Samoylenko V. V., Shakhova VN became scholarship holders of the President of the Russian Federation.

Nevertheless, taking into account the challenges modern agrarian science is facing, and the existing aggregate potential of the university - laboratories, small innovative enterprises, complexes and centers, in the opinion of the vice-rector V. Yu. Morozov, it is necessary to improve the efficiency of research and innovation activities, using significant reserves.

Their suggestions on updating the research vector of the agrarian higher education institution were further expressed by the deputies of the deans on the scientific work of the faculties of the Stavropol State University. Among them - systematic training of scientific personnel; the creation of scientific schools; an increase in the number of international scientific conferences and the issue of monographs, operating software products that are consistent with the principles of the digital economy and the practical purposes of their use, the introduction of scientific developments in production through the creation of prototypes; intensification of international cooperation.

Scientists of the economics faculty, for example, are going to develop methodological approaches to marketing research and modeling of the food market and the promising market of "FoodNet"; prepare infrastructure support for the development of youth technological entrepreneurship; make the foundation for the formation of an information platform for the Regional Technology Transfer System in Agriculture. Significant training improvement of engineering personnel in promising areas and commercialization of scientific and technical products for the agro-industrial complex will be possible due to the acquisition of modern, including robotic, equipment at the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization. The creation of a "Youth polygon" for conducting electrical installation works, the opening of the "Intelligent Wireless Sensor Systems" Center and the Center for Dispatch Control of Heat Consumption Systems are priorities for the Electric Power Department. For the development of domestic breeding and modern information technologies on the basis of the experimental station of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources, it is planned to add a state variety test plot to the existing 8 stationary and 21 short-term experiments. For the first time, work will be carried out in the field of remote sensing of the Earth; it will be done together with the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences,

And this is not all the upcoming plans. The most important task will remain topical - not only involving young people in the scientific activity of the university departments, but also retaining them as teachers. In science, both succession and a generation change are important!
