The theme of the report is "The State and Prospects of Vegetable Growing in Protected Soil in the Stavropol Territory".
Hothouse vegetable growing in 2018 was included in the number of priority branches of agriculture in the Stavropol Territory and has been intensively developing the last five years. At present, the area of greenhouses in the region is 189 hectares. By the end of 2017, the region produced 65 thousand t. greenhouse products, which allowed the region to enter the second place after the Krasnodar Region in terms of the gross collection of this product. The largest greenhouse complexes in the province: LLC TC "Eco-Culture", CJSC "Vegetables of Stavropol", LLC "Sunny Gift", LLC "Vesna", CJSC "Vesna", LLC "Teplichnoe". Construction of greenhouses in the province continues. It is planned to launch new greenhouse combines in Levokum, Predgorny, Izobilnensky Districts and Nevinnomysk. Total by 2020 will be introduced 148 hectares.
In the province there are a number of trends and problems in the industry, which are typical for the whole of Russia. One of the problems is the lack of highly qualified personnel. Stavropol State Agrarian University as an educational institution helps to solve this problem. Vegetable cultivation of protected soil at the university is carried out in two divisions: the laboratory of a greenhouse complex and the greenhouse centre of an experimental station. The work of the units is carried out in three directions: educational, research, production. Within the framework of the main line of activity on the basis of greenhouse centers, specialists are trained in the profile of "Fruit and vegetable growing" - 20 people who are employed in vegetable farms of the region. In the departments the teachers of the University conduct laboratory and practical works for the students of the directions "Agronomy", "Plant Protection", "Ecology and Nature Management". In the vegetable centres of the university students of the Faculties of Agrobiology and Land Resources and Ecology and Landscape Architecture undergo training and production practices.
The subdivisions are the basis for seminars, advanced training courses for training and retraining of experts in the field of vegetable growing in the open and protected soil of the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District and the Southern Federal District - more than 15 events annually. Advanced courses are held at the request of employers and individuals.
