The Council for the Development of the Melioration Complex of the Region has been established at the Regional Ministry

On behalf of Vladimir Vladimirov, Governor of the Stavropol Territory, the Council for the Development of the Region’s Land Reclamation Complex was established under the regional Ministry of Agriculture. The council includes the Dean of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources and Ecology and Landscape Architecture, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of RAS, Honored Worker of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Esaulko Alexander Nikolaevich.

In early 2019, the first meeting of the Council was held. It was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory, heads of agricultural departments of the regions, agricultural producers, and representatives of federal agencies in the field of land reclamation, scientific institutions and design organizations - only 50 people.

Agricultural land reclamation is a complex of technical, organizational, economic and socio-economic measures aimed at a radical improvement of adverse environmental conditions in order to obtain high sustainable yields of agricultural crops. Land reclamation is a fundamental improvement of land as a result of the implementation of a set of measures; among various types of land reclamation, irrigation and drainage are the most extensive.

Currently, the area of irrigated land in the Stavropol Territory is 241.2 thousand hectares, of which only 65 thousand hectares are watered, or 27%. The Minister of Agriculture of the ST Sitnikov Vladimir Nikolayevich, noted that if measures are taken to clean up and reconstruct the main canals, the area of irrigated land can be increased by 165 thousand hectares in the following areas: Greater Stavropol, Nevinnomyssky, Kumo-Manychsky and Terek-Kuma canals. Including 60 thousand hectares in the area of the Pravo-Egorlyk canal in the Izobilnensky, Krasnogvardeisky, Trunovsky, Apanasenkovsky, Ipatovsky and Petrovsky municipal districts and urban districts.

The meeting elected a chairman, deputy chairman and secretary of the Council, and also approved a work plan for the development of the ameliorative complex of the Stavropol Territory for 2019.
