The event was organized by the staff of the Department of Philosophy and History of the University.

From the history of the holiday:

National Unity Day is a holiday celebrated before the revolution for more than two and a half centuries, and revived in 2005, but incorporating new meanings, the feast of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. It was installed in the middle of the XVII century in memory of the liberation of Moscow in 1612 from Polish invaders by the militia of Minin and Pozharsky.

To the militia led by Prince Pozharsky, a miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin was sent from Kazan. According to legend, knowing that the calamity was forgiven for sins, the people and the soldiers imposed a three-day fast on themselves and prayed to God for heavenly help. Their prayer was answered - Russia managed to maintain independence.

The celebration in honor of the Mother-of-God of Kazan was established in 1649. And to this day, this image is especially revered by the Russian Orthodox people. Later, due to the 1917 revolution and subsequent events, the tradition of celebrating the liberation of Moscow from Polish-Lithuanian invaders was interrupted, it was restored again at the beginning of the XXI century. In the 20s of the 17th century, at the expense of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky, a temple was built on Red Square in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in gratitude.

The symbol of the holiday of National Unity Day is also the famous monument by Ivan Martos, installed opposite the Moscow Kremlin in 1818. The sculptor depicted the moment when Kuzma Minin, pointing with his hand to Moscow, presents Prince Pozharsky with an old sword and urges him to stand at the head of the Russian army. Leaning on the shield, the wounded governor rises from his bed, which means the awakening of national consciousness in a difficult time for the Fatherland.
