Stavropol State Agrarian University becomes a member of the scientific consortium in the field of genetics with the involvement of scientists from the UK

28.11.2019

On the basis of the Federal Scientific Center for Biological Systems and Agricultural Technologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Orenburg), a significant scientific event was held with the support of the General Consulate of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences "Genetic Technologies in Biology and Agriculture", in which the Stavropol Agrarian University took part.

The new communication format of scientists from different countries under the name “Science Cafe” was proposed by the British government, and round-table scientists from famous genetics were gathered, the results of which are published in prestigious scientific journals included in the scientometric databases Web of Science and Scopus.

In his welcoming remarks, the British General Consul, Richard Dewell, expressed hope for concrete results by researchers of different countries in enhancing genetic knowledge in the field of biology and agriculture.

About their research areas reported:

• Director of the Federal Scientific Center of BST RAS, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor S.A. Miroshnikov,

• Researcher at the genetic laboratory from the University of Kent in Great Britain M.N. Romanov,

• Head of the Laboratory of Genomics and Animal Evolution of the Royal Veterinary College of the University of London, D.M. Larkin,

• Head of the Laboratory for Breeding and Genetic Research, Federal Scientific Center of BST RAS, Doctor of Medical Sciences D.G. Deryabin,

• Acting director of the OFIC Uro RAS, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the RAS S.V. Cherkasov.

During the discussion of the reports presented, Professor of the Department of Private Zootechnics, Animal Breeding and Breeding, Stavropol State Agrarian University, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Oleinik S.A. informed the listeners about the main directions of research in the field of genetics and breeding of dairy and beef cattle in Stavropol Territory, and also focused on the need for an integrated approach to assessing genetic markers of productive traits of animals.

As a result of the discussion of the presented results, a consolidated opinion was developed on the need to combine the efforts of scientists for an in-depth study of the scientific phenomenon regarding the genetic mechanisms of adaptation of farm animals to the harsh climatic and feed conditions of the Urals, Siberia and Stavropol Territory.
