In Stavropol State Agrarian University, designers were implemented to develop the competencies of city farming

12.12.2019

Employees of Stavropol State Agrarian University, together with activists of the Stavropol Regional Branch of the Russian Union of Rural Youth (RCCM), have implemented a project to develop training designers for growing plants and fish using hydro, aero and aquaponics technologies that form the competence of city farming. Under the agreement, SSAU received three installations of Russian [city] Farms, as well as a set of teaching materials for teaching students technologies of city farming.

The development and creation of hydro-, aero- and aquapone installations is carried out at the expense of the Presidential Grants Fund within the framework of the project “Designers for the development of competences of city farming” carried out by the Stavropol regional branch of OMOO “Russian Union of Rural Youth”.

The usefulness of such a project is expressed in a practical approach to the study of automation of equipment for progressive crop production and fish farming, as well as feeding and fertilizer for intensive growth of plants and fish.

About 70 students of our university since September this year were able to participate in the assembly of designers of hydro-, aero- and aquaponics, as well as observe the natural processes of vegetation and fish growth in laboratory and practical classes at the university, which is much more convenient than field conditions.

The main task of the organizers of the project on the implementation of the Presidential grant was to provide interested students with the necessary teaching materials and conducting workshops on the prepared equipment, which formed the necessary minimum for mastering the competence of city farming. Therefore, an employee of the department of the use of electric energy in agriculture, Ph.D. I.V. Dedederkin conducted interactive classes with students on the developed designers within the disciplines "Automated control systems in the agricultural sector", "Introduction to the specialty" Agricultural Engineering "and" Electrical Equipment of Agricultural Production ". The result of the implementation of the Russian [city] Farms modular designers was that the students were able to set up the plants and grow plants - lettuce and lemon basil in hydro- and aeroponics, as well as control the growth of crucian carp in aquaponics.

By mid-November 2019, our students received the first crop of greens and bred fish. Such an event was timely for the arrival of the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Nikolayevich Patrushev and therefore the senior teacher I.V. Dedederkin and students presented the results of the project to the Minister and Governor of the Stavropol Territory V.V. Vladimirov in the form of advanced training designers for mastering the competences of city farming http://www.stgau.ru/news/news_detail.php?ID=188876.

REFERENCE:

City farming is a global trend in agricultural production technology that accumulates AgTech advanced technologies in the context of the transition of agriculture to Industry 4.0. This is a new direction, combining agro-and aquacultural technologies, advanced engineering and information technology solutions, as well as new business models in order to provide urban residents with food products and make it more efficient than traditional agriculture. “City farming” is part of the Atlas of new professions of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, but so far in Russia there is no broad practical basis for the development of this competency. Ready-made solutions on the market are very expensive or “protected” from change, they cannot be “made by yourself,” which means understanding the logic of the interconnection of processes, that is, learn technology effectively. Constructors to develop the competencies of city farming Russian [city] Farms, on the contrary, have an “open architecture”, are simple, economical and, at the same time, functional and productive.

In the future, it is planned to produce such installations for educational organizations and for the mass consumer, which will allow everyone to grow vegetables, for example, lettuce and tomatoes, at home all year round.
