The competition committee of the 2nd Russian agro industrial exhibition “Golden Autumn-2020” named the winners in the competition “For the successful implementation of innovations in agriculture” for development of technology for medical and preventive drinks based on sugar sorghum.
The achievements of scientists of Stavropol State Agrarian University were assessed at the highest level. The staff of the Department of Production and Processing of Food Products from Plant Raw Materials of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources received an honorary silver in the competition “For the successful implementation of innovations in agriculture”.
The team of scientists presented the development of technology for medicinal and preventive drinks based on sugar sorghum.
Sugar sorghum is an agricultural crop cultivated on all continents of the globe. Sorghum is a fodder and industrial crop, has high productivity, valuable biological features, is drought and salt tolerant, but until now has not found wide application and distribution.
The new lines of sugar sorghum are distinguished by their productivity, heat and drought resistance, stable yields, good feed properties and versatility of use. In the feed balance of animals, it is used for green fodder, hay, haylage, silage, grass flour, pellets, grain forage, grazing. Plants are tall, have a spreading panicle, the core of the stem is juicy and sweet. However, this crop is of particular interest for the food industry for the production of syrup, since the technological process of extracting sugar from the sorghum plant is less laborious and more economical.
