Extra-mural studies to the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Stavropol Territory

Leading teachers of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection conducted a extra-mural studies in the form of an excursion to the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Stavropol Territory for 3rd year students of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources.

Modern interactive approaches to learning include creative assignments, work in small groups, educational games, the use of public resources (inviting a specialist, excursions), and others. In order to combine the educational process with real professional life, thematic excursions are actively used at the Agrarian University.

Leading teachers of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection - Associate Professor Lyudmila Alekseevna Mikhno and Associate Professor Lyudmila Vasilievna Tuturzhans, conducted an extra-mural studies in the form of an excursion to the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Stavropol Territory for 3rd year students of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources, enrolled in the direction 35.03.04 - agronomy, profile - Plant protection.

Andrey Yuryevich Oleinikov, the head of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr" in the Stavropol Territory, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Andrey Yuryevich Oleinikov, addressed the students - future specialists in the field of plant protection with a welcoming speech.

Olga Viktorovna Kuznetsova, Deputy Head of Plant Protection, spoke about the main stages of development and tasks of the plant protection service in the Stavropol Territory, who noted that the first domestic entomological bureau was opened precisely in the Stavropol Territory to study the phytosanitary situation and organize pest and disease control, disseminate knowledge on rational and timely plant protection.

Natalya Vyacheslavovna Kovaleva, Deputy Head of Seed Production, introduced the students to the goals of the seed production department. Of particular interest to future agronomists was the analysis of the sowing qualities of seeds through laboratory research, the results of which were clearly demonstrated by the chief agronomist of the seed production department Galina Nikolaevna Plotnikova.

During the excursion, the students also visited the toxicology laboratory. Svetlana Ivanovna Sidorova - Deputy Head of the Stavropol Toxicological Laboratory, explained what tests the laboratory is engaged in:

• analysis of crop production for safety indicators in order to confirm the compliance of crop production with the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union in the form of a declaration;

• analysis of the residual amount of pesticides in products and plant material;

• analysis of the quality of pesticide preparations;

• analysis of the quality of seed dressing;

• agrochemical soil analysis.

During a conversation about the phytosanitary situation in the Stavropol Territory, Deputy Head of Plant Protection Olga Viktorovna Kuznetsova and Head of the Plant Protection Department Natalya Vasilyevna Luchko raised questions about the prevalence and harmfulness of winter grain mites and hibellinous root rot. Andrey Yuryevich Oleinikov also elaborated on the dangers for agricultural production of the brown marble bug, included in the single list of quarantine objects of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Methods of biological protection, as part of an integrated plant protection system, aroused a lively discussion, including the timing and norms for the use of biological preparations for protecting plants from diseases, the release of entomophages such as Trichogramma and gabrobracon for combating lepidopteran pests of agricultural crops.

In addition to biological protection, students were also able to discuss the economic efficiency of the use of chemical and biological preparations in the cultivation of agricultural crops, which will undoubtedly be useful in their future profession, no matter what direction of agronomy they choose for themselves.

The main goal of the excursion has been achieved! The students got acquainted with the structure of the regional branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhoztsentr", with the conditions and specifics of its work, which will make it possible to form vivid images and will contribute to a more accurate representation of the foundations of production activities in the field of plant protection.
