Students of the Veterinary Faculty of Stavropol State Agrarian University took a practical lesson on the discipline "Biology and pathology of small domestic, laboratory, wild, exotic and zoo animals" on the topic: "Features of the biology and pathologies of reptiles, small mammals, exotic fish and birds" on the basis of the Stavropol Regional Zoo Exotarium.
The students were accompanied by the professor of the Department of Parasitology and Veterinary Sanitary Expertise, Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy named after V.I. Professor S.N. Nikolsky Vladislav Anatolyevich Porublev. The lesson was conducted by the veterinarian of the Stavropol Zoo Exotarium Sergey Fedorovich Verevkin.
During the lesson, students examined the features of the external structure, habitat, nutrition, reproduction, behavior of reptiles: common boa constrictor, Paraguayan anaconda, tiger python, maize snake, lizards, turtles, small mammals, exotic fish and birds.
In addition, during the lesson, the veterinarian of the zoo exotarium paid attention to the requirements for the artificial environment necessary for the prevention of diseases of various etiologies of its inhabitants. The most frequent types of pathologies encountered in the inhabitants of the zoo exotarium were noted, recommendations were given for feeding and keeping exotic animals.
At the end of the lesson, the veterinarian and the teacher gave answers to the questions of the student audience that arose during the lesson, as well as recommendations on the use of basic and additional literature on the topic of the lesson.
