All-Russian seminar-meeting "Educational and Experimental Farms of Agricultural Universities: Experience and Development Prospects"

For agrarian universities, having their own educational and experimental farm is an important competitive advantage, which allows not only to teach students the basics of their future profession in practice, but also to engage in scientific activities, as well as to receive income from commercial activities, which can be used to develop the material and technical base of educational farms. The seminar meeting was held at the Kuban State Agrarian University.

The meeting was attended by representatives of 31 agrarian universities in Russia: rectors, vice-rectors and heads of educational and experimental farms subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

Stavropol State Agrarian University was represented by Timur Soltanovich Aysanov, associate professor of the department of production and processing of food from vegetable raw materials, and Alexander Yurievich Lagutin, chief agronomist of the educational and experimental farm of SSAU.

Prospects of development of such farms on the basis of universities subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia discussed at the plenary session under the guidance of Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maxim Iosifovich Uvaidov.

According to him, the full-fledged solution of tasks entrusted to the training farms will be possible only if their property complexes are located within the structure of agricultural universities. "Our task is to organize work of experimental and training farms as scientific and educational centres, which will contribute to innovative development of agricultural sectors, participate in development of innovative technologies in production and processing of agricultural products", - the Deputy Minister said.

Successful examples are the educational and experimental farms of the Kuban and Stavropol State Agrarian Universities. These are modern and highly profitable production facilities, as well as a powerful base for scientific research and practical training of students. At present, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture is working consistently to transfer the property of the other academic farms into federal ownership.

It was also noted at the meeting that funding of agrarian universities is steadily increasing - this applies both to scientific research activities and renovation of the main fund and the equipment fleet. Last year, more than 30 billion roubles were allocated for resource provision, which is almost 2 billion more than in 2019.

Rector of KubGAU Alexander Ivanovich Trubilin was the keynote speaker at the seminar and spoke about the results of the Kuban and Krasnodar farms, which are not only a training base, but also a prime example of profitable agricultural production.

Rectors of the country's leading agrarian universities discussed topical issues related to the participation of educational and experimental farms in the effective provision of practical training for students and scientific research, and learned about the best practices of efficient, highly profitable business.

In the second part of the seminar representatives of the Kuban State Agrarian University conducted a tour around the educational and experimental farm of the University, during which they shared their experience in the effective work of the farm and in enhancing the efficiency of economic activities and practical training of students.

The guests were shown perennial stationary experiments, a number of short-term experiments, an intensive-type educational garden and the University's vineyard. The participants of the meeting were shown the training and laboratory building at the experimental station of the Kuban State Agrarian University, as well as the advanced equipment used in the training and experimental farm.

Such events facilitate the exchange of experience, the acquisition of new knowledge, and the expansion of business and scientific communication between scientists.
