An interfaculty student conference "Chemistry in my specialty" was held at the Boiling Point of the Stavropol State Agrarian University.
Chemist's Day is a holiday that unites professionals, students, postgraduates, teachers, and graduates of all generations. In modern production, the chemical industry is one of the most technologically advanced, complex and economically significant sectors of the economy. It is not surprising that a special holiday has appeared - the Day of the Chemist. The tradition of celebrating this holiday has been preserved since 1980 not only in Russia, but also in a number of other post-Soviet countries, when the Chemist's Day was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR No. 3018-X "About festive and memorable days" dated October 1, 1980.
An interfaculty student conference dedicated to the Day of the Chemist was held at the Boiling Point of SSAU. The conference was opened by the head of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Anna Nikolaevna Shipulya, who noted that holding the conference at the university is traditional. Every year, at the end of the academic year, students studying chemical disciplines summarize and, on the eve of Chemist's Day, present scientific and research materials that aroused their special interest in the study of chemistry.
Elena Valentinovna Pashkova, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection, Candidate of Technical Sciences, noted that 2021 is a special year for chemists around the world. This year marks the 160th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Russian chemist Nikolai Dmitrievich Zelinsky. The conference was dedicated to this special date.
Elena Vladimirovna Volosova, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection, presented the main directions of development of the modern chemical industry. There is not a single branch of the economy that is not directly or indirectly related to chemical technologies.
Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Yulia Aleksandrovna Bezgina said that it is very symbolic that such a conference is being held within the walls of the Agrarian University. Disciplines of a chemical profile are studied in our university in all areas of training. Modern agriculture cannot do without the effective results of new chemical technologies. New developments in plant growing, veterinary, agroengineering, environmental safety help modern farmers to obtain high volumes of high-quality safe agricultural products.
During the conference, the following students presented their reports:
Angelina Shalneva (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) on the topic: “The life and work of the Russian chemist N.D. Zelinsky ";
Eliza Madaeva (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "The life and work of Maria Skladovskaya-Curie";
Elizaveta Bychkova (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Halogenated hydrocarbons and their application in the field of plant protection";
Ksenia Zabaznaya (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Features of the physical and chemical properties of fats and oils, and their biological role";
Oleg Polikarpov (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "The use of aromatic compounds in agriculture";
Daria Kitaeva (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Application of Amistar Extra on winter wheat crops";
Denis Portnov (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Essential amino acids, their properties, production and biological role";
Raziyat Radjabova and Anastasia Stupakova (Faculty of Ecology and Landscape Architecture) on the topic: "The influence of acidification of the body on human health"
Angelina Politaeva (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) on the topic: "The practical use of titanium in medicine and veterinary medicine"
Alexey Dudchenko (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) on the topic: "The influence of organic explosives on the Earth's ecosystems";
Ksenia Sotnikova (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Iodized food salt: composition and possible modes of use in food production";
Alexandra Vasischeva (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "Alkaloids and their impact on humans";
Julia Surneva (Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources) on the topic: "The use of ionizing radiation of radioactive isotopes in animal husbandry."
Particularly noted was the report by Alexander Loboda (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) on the topic: "The threat of extinction from radiation." An accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred 35 years ago - a tragedy that is the largest both in terms of the number of people killed and affected by its consequences, and in terms of economic damage. The author presented the chemistry of the tragedy that happened: the main damaging factor was radioactive contamination. The cloud from the burning reactor carried various radioactive materials, primarily iodine and cesium radionuclides, to most of Europe. The scale of the tragedy is still impossible to calculate. The conference participants honored the memory of all those who died as a result of the accident and its consequences with a minute of silence.
The leaders of the presented scientific theoretical and practical research of students are employees of the Department of Chemistry and Plant Protection.
During the conference, students showed interest in the presented material, many questions were asked, to which the speakers gave comprehensive answers on the topics of their research.
