Practical classes for future veterinarians in the Stavropol Regional Zoo Exotarium

The Stavropol Regional Zoo Exotarium is a museum of wildlife and belongs to the category of zoos. Veterinary students saw mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, insects collected from different parts of the world. In five halls, glazed observation-type terrariums are displayed, decorated inside with decorations and fragments of habitats that contain animals, as well as large aquariums with exotic fish. The exotarium has its own musical accompaniment, represented by the sounds of the wild jungle of the Amazon.

Practical classes for students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine were conducted by:

· Professor of the Department of Parasitology and Veterinary Sanitary Expertise, Anatomy and Pathological Anatomy named after Professor S.N. Nikolsky Vladislav Anatolyevich Porblev.

During the leсture, students got acquainted with the features of the external structure, habitat, nutrition, reproduction, behavior and the role of snakes in natural ecological systems (common boa constrictor, Paraguayan anaconda, tiger python, maize snake, etc.), lizards (monitor lizards, green iguana, blue-tongued skink), turtles (panther, snake-necked, cayman), crocodiles (Nile crocodile), small mammals (marten, nose, chinchilla, Chilean dagu, meerkats, macaques), exotic fish (piranhas, pangasius, telapias, goldfish, etc. and birds (toucan, barn owl, owl, parrots).

In addition, during the excursion, the veterinarian of the zoo exotarium and the teacher paid attention to the requirements for an artificial habitat necessary for the prevention of diseases of various etiologies of its inhabitants; students were given recommendations on feeding and keeping exotic animals, birds and fish, respect for wild, exotic and zoo animals living in various biotopes of the Earth.
