The Stavropol regional government and “Innopraktika” will work together to innovate in the agricultural sector

13.07.2021

The Government of the Stavropol Territory and the National Intellectual Development Foundation for the Support of Scientific and Project Activities of Students, Postgraduates and Young Scientists (Innopraktika brand) have signed a cooperation agreement aimed at the economic development and introduction of innovative technologies in the region's agribusiness.

Under the agreement, several projects will be implemented in the Stavropol region. One of them is the Innagro trial programme, initiated by Innopraktika in 2020. Under this programme, large agribusinesses and small- and medium-sized agricultural producers in the region will be able to test the effectiveness of Russian biopreparations under real-life conditions and develop technologies for their use in crop production.

In 2021, in addition to the Stavropol Territory, another 19 regions will take part in the project. A total of 500 trials of biological crop protection products, feed probiotics and bioconservatives for fodder production have been planned for this year by Innopraktika. Participation in Innagro will contribute to the biologisation of agriculture in Stavropol Krai.

Breeding livestock will also be an area of partnership with the region. For example, in 2022 work will begin on a program for genotyping dairy cattle, creating an animal reference base with reliable phenotypic and genotypic data and creating a unified system for assessing the breeding value of livestock.

The programme partners will be the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), Mirator Genetics and Stavropol State Agrarian University. The programme is coordinated by Innopraktika. Global experience shows that the use of such techniques and working technologies contributes to the formation of a growing breeding core of animals with outstanding characteristics, increasing productivity by 10% per year, and improving milk quality.

"The Stavropol Territory is a recognised leader in the agro-industrial sector of the entire Russian Federation. The introduction of innovative biological practices and genetic solutions into the region's agriculture will create a competitive advantage for agricultural producers. This becomes particularly important when domestic products enter the world market, where demand for organic products and products with improved characteristics outstrips supply. In addition, the use of new biotechnologies helps to reduce the burden on the environment and promote soil regeneration. Our agreement with the Stavropol regional government is aimed at introducing such methods in the agricultural sector, as well as cooperation in the field of agricultural education," said Vladimir Avdeyenko, director of the Directorate for Agricultural and Biotechnology Development at Innopraktika.

"The development of livestock farming based on advanced scientific developments is one of the strategic goals we have identified in the regional agro-industrial complex. It is an important factor in ensuring food security, improving export potential, as well as economic and social development of the village. In the past three years more than 20 investment projects in dairy farming alone have been implemented in Stavropol Krai. State funding for modernising dairy farms and acquiring highly productive livestock amounted to around 2 billion RUB during this period. I am sure that cooperation with the National Intellectual Development Foundation and the use of the region's scientific potential will provide an important impetus for the development of the regional agricultural sector, with a useful effect for decades to come," said Stavropol Territory Governor Vladimir Vladimirov.
