The Department of Livestock and Pedigree Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, within the framework of a video conference with the participation of leading pedigree centers, as well as with the involvement of scientists from Stavropol State Agrarian University, discussed the mechanism of using the BLAP method for assessing pedigree dairy cattle at the national level.
Under the leadership of V.V. Chernov, head of the pedigree resources unit of the Department of Livestock and Pedigree Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, with the involvement of S.E. Tyapugin, Acting Director of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Pedigree Business, S.A. Shemetyuk, General Director of JSC "Main center for the reproduction of farm animals", representatives of the pedigree organizations of the Krasnodar Territory, the Leningrad and Kirov regions, LLC RC "Plinor", as well as with the participation of S.A. Oleinik, professor of the basic department of private animal husbandry, selection and breeding of animals at FSBEI HE Stavropol SAU, discussion of the methodology for assessing the breeding value of sire bulls based on the application of BLAP principles took place.
A feature of the new approach applied by VNIIPlem in the preparation of a new Catalog of bulls-producers of dairy and dairy-meat breeds, assessed by the quality of offspring in 2021, is an attempt to harmonize national regulatory and legal methods for assessing the breeding value of animals with generally accepted international practices. It was these issues, as well as the need to take into account the milk productivity of animals in accordance with the ICAR methodology, which has already been declared in the regulatory documents of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) that the speech of Professor S.A. Oleinik was focused on.
The head of the pedigree resources unit of the Department of Livestock and Pedigree Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia V.V. Chernov noted the importance of the developments of scientists of Stavropol State Agrarian University in the direction of adaptation and implementation of innovative methods for assessing the milk productivity of pedigree dairy cattle based on modern international practices, including ICAR methods.
