Educational module “A cycle of master classes from a practicing veterinarian on ultrasound diagnostics in animals”

On the basis of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, within the framework of strategic cooperation for 3-4 year students, an educational module “A cycle of master classes from a practicing veterinarian on ultrasound diagnostics in animals” was conducted. Ultrasound examination is a simple, affordable and non-contraindicated diagnostic method that demonstrates the state of internal organs. The essence of the technology lies in the fact that ultrasonic waves are reflected from tissues, collecting into an integral picture, which is fixed on the monitor.

The lecturer was Tatyana Anatolyevna Komarova, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, speaker and regular participant of Moscow International Veterinary Congresses since 2009, regional veterinary conferences in Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, leading master classes in ultrasound diagnostics, member Guild of Practicing Veterinarians (Moscow), member of the Veterinary Society of Imaging Methods (Moscow).

With the help of the technique, it is possible at an early stage to identify diseases of the liver, kidneys, mammary glands, cardiovascular system and other organs. In addition, ultrasound allows you to diagnose abnormalities in the development of the fetus during pregnancy, as well as to determine emergency conditions (vascular thrombosis, acute cholecystitis, etc.).

The lecturer talked about the theoretical and demonstration parts of the ultrasound scanner, the use of different types of sensors, the correct choice of settings, the performance of measurements and calculations, archiving and printing conclusions. She revealed the rules for collecting anamnesis, preparing and placing animals. She paid special attention to US terminology, normal and pathological US anatomy. They discussed testing techniques for ultrasound scanners, maintenance rules, types of interference and ways to eliminate them, safety.
