Field class for students of the faculties of veterinary medicine and biotechnology at production site

Students of Stavropol State Agrarian University conducted a field class at one of the best milk production enterprises in the region - in the agricultural company “Selo named after G.V. Kaishev" in the village of Suvorovskaya. Then students had a tour of the Pyatigorsk Dairy Plant, where raw materials are supplied from the dairy farm. Also during the trip, the opening of a new innovation laboratory was launched.

Future veterinarians and technologists saw the conditions under which animals are kept, how automated feed distribution, cleaning and milking work, how silage is harvested. The main base for feed is produced on the farm itself, various types of meal and bioadditives are purchased. The modern infrastructure of the farm is built according to Californian technology.

The students were accompanied by Sergey Alexandrovich Oleinik, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Head of the Milk Quality Laboratory of SSAU.

Guests of the production were met by:

General Director of the agricultural company “Selo named after G.V. Kaishev" Yuri Grigorievich Kaishev;

Director General of the Pyatigorsk Dairy Plant Konstantin Borisovich Sukharev.

The leaders said that the farm is breeding Holstein dairy cows. On average, black-and-white cows (weighing up to 600 kg) give 32 liters of milk per day.

With each milking, cows lose many minerals and trace elements, which can lead to health problems. Therefore, they try not only to feed them well and diversified, but also solder them with mineral water from a local source (they bring them to the farm by water carts).

The students were shown how calves are kept. Each is in a house with its own courtyard covered with warm straw. As they grow older, they are vaccinated, their tails and horns are docked.

After a walk around the farm, an excursion with a tasting at the Pyatigorsk Dairy Plant took place.

The tasting was accompanied by an interesting story by a technologist about how dairy products are produced. Then the future specialists got acquainted with the work of conveyors and other modern equipment of the plant.
