Olympiad in Biological Chemistry

The Olympiad in Biological Chemistry for 1st year students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and students of secondary vocational education studying in the specialty "Veterinary" was held at the Stavropol State Agrarian University. As part of creative cooperation and career guidance, students of the 8th grade of school No. 64 of Stavropol were invited.

The organizing committee included professors of the Department of Therapy and Pharmacology, Associate Professors Natalya Viktorovna Fedota, Eduard Vladimirovich Gorchakov, Professor Bahama Manapovich Bagamaev. 112 people took part in the Olympiad.

The main goal of the Olympiad was to expand the range of theoretical knowledge in the discipline "Biological Chemistry", to increase interest in the disciplines and the future profession.

For the pupils of the school can also take an active part, the topic was determined in advance - "Vitamins, their structure and functions." Students creatively approached the preparation. Participants presented visual colorful materials, prepared interesting questions. Fat soluble vitamins. Water soluble vitamins. A brief history of the study of vitamins. Avitaminosis, hypo- and hypervitaminosis. Classification and nomenclature of vitamins. The use of vitamins in animal husbandry.

The acquired knowledge will be useful for the subsequent study of the following disciplines: basics of physiology, Veterinary pharmacology and toxicology, internal non-communicable diseases, Veterinary and Public Health.

Students showed the ability to make quick medical decisions in non-standard situations without the right to make a mistake. Most of the tasks were interdisciplinary in nature, there were also tasks of increased complexity. Schoolchildren also showed interest and activity, felt comfortable, answered questions with pleasure, learned a lot of new and useful things.

The format of the Olympiad gave students the opportunity to conduct an independent search for chemical information using various sources, apply knowledge, reveal personal qualities, creativity, and show the ability to master professional vocabulary and terms. The event was held in an atmosphere of friendship, good mood and broadened the horizons of students.
