Despite the fact that this year, due to heavy rainfall, the harvesting campaign at the training and experimental farm of the Stavropol State Agrarian University was difficult and began three weeks later than usual, the staff of the educational farm managed to get a higher harvest of winter wheat compared to last year. More than 800 students completed educational and industrial practice at the educational farm, and a combined detachment of three faculties took an active part in the harvesting of grain crops.
One of the most important areas of work of the Stavropol State Agrarian University is the revival of seed production and an increase in crop yields. In 2022, the educational farm of the university planted 89 hectares of seed crops of barley and winter and spring forms of wheat from the leading breeding centers in the south of Russia. Due to the variety of soil and climatic conditions of the educational farm and the provision of the university with modern agricultural equipment, SSAU conducts scientific developments that are relevant for different regions of the North Caucasus and Southern federal districts and are in demand by their farms.
The educational and experimental farm of the Stavropol State Agrarian University is the basis for the practical training of students, scientific research and the introduction of innovative developments. Every year, more than 800 students of various areas of full-time and part-time forms of study take part in educational and industrial practice here: "Agronomy", "Food from vegetable raw materials", "Ecology and nature management", "Gardening", "Landscape architecture", "Land management and cadastre" "Agroengineering", "Veterinary", "Zootechnics", "Technology of production and processing of agricultural products", etc.
The material and technical base of the educational and experimental farm is systematically updated. The teaching staff, graduate students, masters, students and bachelors conduct research on topical areas of development of the agro-industrial complex: improving the elements of cultivation technologies for the main grain, technical, fodder, vegetable, fruit and berry crops.
This year, a combined student team of the faculties of agrobiology and land resources, ecology and landscape architecture, secondary vocational education of 48 students was involved in the harvesting of grain, industrial and fruit crops.
As the dean of the departments of agrobiology and land resources, ecology and landscape architecture, professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Esaulko explained: “The yield of winter wheat this year was about 45 centners per hectare, which is 10% more than last year. When conducting research on optimizing plant nutrition, the yield level of winter wheat reached 82-88 q/ha.”
Acting Rector of the Stavropol State Agrarian University Professor Valentin Skripkin visited the educational farm, looked at how the harvesting campaign was going and noted: “The grant received by the university from the Federal program “Priority 2030” helped us, together with strategic partners, to conduct experiments on programming the productivity of winter wheat based on nutrition optimization, monitoring observations and introduction of digital tools. The results are pleasing. Stavropol State Agrarian University sees its mission as scientific research and the introduction of agricultural technologies that would help local farmers increase production intensity and provide the domestic market with quality products.
