SSAU scientists have developed an alternative to the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry

11.11.2022

Scientists from the Basic Department of Epizootology and Microbiology of the Stavropol State Agrarian University received a patent for a synbiotic agent that reduces the risk of gastrointestinal tract diseases in newborn calves. The drug solves the problems of prevention of infectious diseases and the unjustified use of antibiotics in animal husbandry.

The newborn period for cattle calves is a turning point in the development of physiological functions of the body. At this moment, there is a restructuring of the activities of almost all organs and systems associated with changes in the ways of nutrition and the environment. The gastrointestinal tract of calves is particularly vulnerable to pathogenic microorganisms. During this period, it is important to provide the animal not only with good nutrition, but also to take care of its immunity.

The main importance in the formation of the adaptive immune system of young animals is the microbiocenosis of the gastrointestinal tract. A team of scientists from the Stavropol State Agrarian University suggests using compositions based on live probiotic microorganisms that provide effective stimulation of the vital activity of the symbiotic microflora. Unlike antibiotics, the remedy has no risks for both the animal and the person who will subsequently consume animal products.
