Under the guidance of Professor of the Department of Agrochemistry and Plant Physiology, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Yulia Grechishkina, the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources of the SSAU held a webinar "Nutrition and Fertilization of Berry Crops" together with the leading companies of the region.
The webinar participants were: JSC Mineral and Chemical Company «EuroChem», the Department of Agrochemistry and Plant Physiology of the State Agrarian University, Federal State Budgetary Institution «Stavropolsky», Farm «Pedashenko», students of the Stavropol State Agrarian University and the Labinsk Agricultural College.
At the webinar, they talked about the technology of growing berry crops, such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Particular attention was paid to the main methods of fertilizing berry crops.
- The role of berry gardening The prevalence of various berry crops in the territory of the Russian Federation is rapidly developing. Berry crops have a wide range of dietary properties, high yield, high multiplication rate, early maturity, and technological effectiveness of cultivation, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Department of Agrochemistry and Plant Physiology, Associate Professor Yulia Grechishkina.
Dmitry Vladimirovich Sidorenko, the head of the agricultural research area «South» of «EuroChem», shared the technology for the correct preparation of mother liquors and spoke about methods for determining the EC and pH of water and soil, the effect of water quality on the yield of berry crops, and gave examples of drawing up nutrition programs for strawberries:
- In order to develop an effective mineral nutrition scheme for garden strawberries when grown in open ground, it is necessary first of all to conduct an agrochemical analysis of the soil and irrigation water. Despite the fact that strawberries perfectly tolerate soil acidification and acidity fluctuations, the availability of nutrients directly depends on the pH level. The optimal solubility of all compounds is observed when the reaction medium is close to neutral. Water for irrigation and spraying should have a pH of 5.5-6.5.
It is important to remember that an excess of minerals is no less dangerous than their deficiency. Do not use high doses of fertilizers, especially nitrogen fertilizers, this increases the salt content in the root zone, with a lack of moisture, plants can get burned.
Maxim Evgenyevich Stolyarov, a specialist in agrochemical services at «EuroChem», told the students about the preparation of nutrition programs for berry crops, the main myths and misconceptions in this area. He paid special attention to practical issues such as "Why do we need agrochemical analysis?", "What indicators of agrochemical analysis are most important?", "Where to perform the analysis?", "How to interpret the results of the analysis?":
«EuroChem specialists, together with several large berry farms in the country, have developed and tested an effective mineral nutrition scheme for garden strawberries based on branded granular and water-soluble products. The scheme is advisory in nature and should be adjusted depending on the specific conditions of the farm: the method of cultivation, the properties of the soil or substrate, the climatic conditions or microclimate in the greenhouse, the variety of the planned crop».
One of the strategic scientific directions of the Stavropol State Agrarian University is "Breeding and genetics, biologization and digital technologies in agriculture". The research and production center "Primary nursery of fruit and berry crops" has been created at the university, in which research is being carried out to find inexpensive and effective technologies for growing crops. In December last year, university scientists offered agricultural producers ready-made solutions for the development of the berry business.
