The meeting "Challenges and potential for the development of meat sheep breeding in Russia" was held at the multifunctional exhibition center "MinVodyEXPO". Topical issues, problems and prospects for the development of domestic sheep breeding in the territories of the North Caucasus were brought up for discussion. More than 200 people took part, including government authorities of the republics of the North Caucasus Federal District, representatives of science and education, the «Damate» group of companies, heads and specialists of agricultural organizations and farms.

Stavropol State Agrarian University was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Biotechnology, Doctor of Biology, Professor Valentin Skripkin, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Department of Private Animal Science, Breeding and Animal Breeding Sergey Oleinik, Head of the Basic Department of Private Animal Science, Selection and Breeding of Animals, Doctor of Biology, Professor Evgeny Chernobay. As a result of the meeting, a resolution was developed on the need to support the instruction of the President of Russia on the development and approval of a comprehensive program for the development of industrial meat sheep breeding in the North Caucasian Federal Circle until 2030 and recommend including the following activities:

- stimulation of investments in the construction, modernization and technical re-equipment of sheep farms, slaughterhouses and processing enterprises;

stimulating sheep farms to switch to the production of marketable products and legalize the turnover of sheep products;

- development of forage base and forage production;

- stimulation of breeding and genetic work to improve the breeding and meat characteristics of the sheep population in the North Caucasus Federal District.

In the center, using the latest technologies, highly productive breeding sheep and goats for meat production will be bred. This will improve the domestic gene pool. The project, implemented by the «Damate» group of companies, involves the construction of two large farms, an artificial insemination station and a quarantine site.
