The largest producer of mineral fertilizers, LLC PhosAgro-Stavropol, together with the largest Russian company for the production of chemical plant protection products, JSC Firm August, again gathered Stavropol farmers for a traditional seminar at the distribution center in PhosAgro-Stavropol in Zelenokumsk. The event was attended by the head of the Department of Soil Science named after Professor V.I. Tulpanov, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Valery Tskhovrebov.
The event is timed to coincide with the beginning of spring field work and the first nitrogen fertilization of winter crops, which, according to the Ministry of Agriculture of the region, will be carried out on an area of more than 1.5 million hectares.
Annually, representatives of the regional Ministry of Agriculture, heads of subordinate institutions and scientists of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources of the Stavropol Agrarian University, specialists of the agricultural service of agricultural enterprises, farmers of Stavropol take part in the seminar. This year, the total number of participants was 75 people – mainly representatives of the agro-industrial complex of the eastern regions of the region.
First Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol Territory Elena Tambovtseva in her message indicated that there is no shortage of mineral fertilizers in our region. Separately, she said that the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation has taken a course for intensive import substitution in seed production, due to anti-Russian economic sanctions and the unclear situation regarding foreign seed suppliers. This is especially true for corn and sunflower. Further, Elena Tambovtseva reported on innovations in the field of state support for farmers. In particular, per-hectare subsidies will be provided to reimburse the costs of introducing plant protection products and mineral fertilizers used during sowing. Subsidies will also be provided for the use of mineral fertilizers during early spring feeding. The list of subsidies for a ton of harvested grain has been expanded this year, the costs of fuel and spare parts for agricultural machinery have been included in it. And, most interestingly, subsidies should be brought to agricultural producers in the first quarter of 2023.
The seminar was addressed by the head of the Department of Soil Science named after Professor V.I. Tulpanov, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Valery Tskhovrebov. He explained how to correctly calculate the doses of fertilizers for their application in the spring and that the work should begin with soil analysis. The professor asks to pay the greatest attention to the content of mobile phosphorus in the 0-20 cm layer, the amount of sulfur and nitrogen:
— The yield value is determined by the element that is at the minimum. We often don't know this minimum. In the spring, we can only take into account how much phosphorus is left in the soil, and depending on this, make an adjustment for the introduction of nitrogen fertilizers. How much nitrogen fertilizers to give in the spring depends primarily on the phosphorus content in the soil and only then on the possibilities of the farm and the planned harvest.
The scientist especially stressed that top dressing also depends on the variety of the crop and drew attention to the factors that need to be taken into account in early spring top dressing: the state of crops, the content of elements in the soil, the supply of productive moisture, the varietal composition of winter wheat, the phytosanitary condition of soils. The professor also drew attention to the fact that a warm winter provokes the development of various pathogenic microorganisms in the soil and on plant residues:
— Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizers contributes to the development of diseases. Pay special attention to fields with a high nitrogen content. It is necessary to combine biological and chemical methods of control. A prerequisite for making any decision is an agrochemical survey of fields.
Svetlana Petrova, Deputy Head of the Department of Agronomic Support of PhosAgro-Region, also spoke about the importance of conducting an agrochemical survey of fields, identifying the need to introduce not only basic elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, but also trace elements, and the scientific justification of the need for these elements in plant nutrition. The opinions of the experts who spoke were supported by practitioners. Each of the agricultural producers annually sees the practical benefits of the use of mineral fertilizers in their fields.
