One of the departments of the Faculty of Agrobiology and Land Resources will be named after the scientist. The corresponding order was signed by the rector of SSAU Vladimir Sitnikov.
Stavropol State Agrarian University hosted an international scientific and practical conference “The current state and prospects for the development of horticulture, viticulture and nursery”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the former researcher of the university, professor, doctor of agricultural sciences Nikolay Mitrofanovich Kurennoy.
As part of the opening ceremony, Rector Vladimir Sitnikov said that as a token of gratitude for the huge contribution to the development of science and the university, the last Academic Council of the university decided to rename the Department of Production and Processing of Food from Vegetable Raw Materials to the Department of Horticulture and Processing of Vegetable Raw Materials named after professor N.M. Kurennoy.
- Nikolay Mitrofanovich is a unique person, he went through the battles for Sevastopol, was wounded, and later reached Poland. Awarded with orders and medals. And along with the exploits, he published hundreds of works, according to which our students are still studying. A low bow to everyone who created the history of the Stavropol State Agrarian University. And we will try to further develop our native university and strive for new discoveries, - said the rector of the Stavropol State Agrarian University Vladimir Sitnikov.
A welcome address in honor of this event was presented to the son of the great Stavropol scientist - Valery Nikolaevich Kurennoy.

Nikolay Kurennoy is a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, professor, author of more than 150 scientific and educational works and patents, holder of the honorary title of Honored Scientist.
His career at Stavropol State Agrarian University (then - Stavropol Agricultural Institute) began in 1953. Over the years of work, he has gone from the head of the department of sericulture to the dean of the Faculty of Agronomy.
In the 1960s, Nikolay Mitrofanovich Kurennoy took part in the development of a large-scale program for the development of sericulture in the USSR, as well as in the construction of 12 state grenage factories. Under his leadership, the first educational plantation in the Stavropol Territory of the best varieties of blackcurrant and strawberry berries was laid at the university.
