Scientists of Stavropol State Agrarian University were able to optimize the process of incubation of quail eggs

20.04.2023

A new technique for artificial hatching of chicks has increased the number of hatched eggs by 10%.

The author of the scientific development is Artem Boyarinov, a student of the biotechnology faculty of SSAU, the owner of a grant in the field of science and innovation for young scientists within the framework of the Priority 2030 program.

In the course of scientific research under the guidance of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Elena Epimakhova, the young scientist studied the effect of several stimulant drugs on embryonic and postnatal development in combination with various incubation regimens. All studies were carried out in the scientific and educational vivarium of Stavropol State Agrarian University on quails of the “White Texas” breed. As a result, scientists have found the most effective method of artificial hatching using optimal humidity and temperature in the incubator using the best stimulant drug.

Optimization of the incubation process ensured the hatching of 85% of the chicks. At the same time, the predicted value of the effectiveness of the method from the Federal Scientific Center “All-Russian Research and Technological Institute of Poultry” of the Russian Academy of Sciences was 75%. The data obtained at the end of the experiment can be useful for agricultural enterprises and small businesses for intensive poultry farming.

— The research was carried out due to the fact that at my university there is a strong support for young scientists. The allocated grant funds were used to purchase a domestic incubator, hatching eggs and other equipment necessary for scientific research. Such competitions help young scientists to embody their ideas, - said Artem Boyarinov, a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Biotechnology.
