For the first time in the history of veterinary science, the Stavropol State Agrarian University developed and tested ophthalmic medicinal films based on a biostimulant from the brain tissue of cattle.
A student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Margarita Gorohova, has developed a scientifically based complex method for treating dogs and cats with eye lesions - this form of the disease is one of the most common in veterinary medicine. The main causes of the disease can be bacteria, allergies, poor hygiene, colds or foreign bodies.
The uniqueness of the technique lies in the fact that the medicinal films are developed on the basis of a biostimulator from the brain tissue of cattle, which was previously obtained by scientists of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The study was funded by the Innovation Promotion Fund after winning the UMNIK grant program in 2021.
“The proposed method of treatment not only makes it possible to shorten the recovery time of animals, but is also very convenient for owners to use at home,” emphasized student Margarita Gorokhova.
The development was presented in the student scientific section of the XXXI International Moscow Veterinary Congress at the III National Prize "Silver Microscope" among young scientists-students in veterinary and biological fields. Out of more than 50 works, the project of the SSAU student was awarded a diploma of the II degree.
The supervisors were Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Physiology, Surgery and Obstetrics Angelina Shulunova and Candidate of Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Therapy and Pharmacology Natalia Fedota.
