February 19th, 2013: StSAU hosted the enlarged meeting of Stavropol region universities Rectors Board.

The items on the agenda included forms and methods of working with student youth concerning inter-ethnic relations harmonization in the region’s higher education institutions.

The chairman of Stavropol region Rectors Board, the Rector of StSAU Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhachev, vice-chairman of Stavropol region government Galina Valentinovna Tkacheva, acting Education Minister Valentina Petrovna Solonina, the chairman of Committee for Matters Concerning Young Persons Irina Nikolaevna Shatskaya, deputy chief of Principal Directorate of Ministry of the Interior Mikhail Yurjevich Chernikov, members of Stavropol region Rectors Board, national diasporas representatives, representatives of executive agency of Stavropol region and Northern Caucasus federal district republics took part in the meeting.

The meeting was opened by the chairman of Stavropol region Rectors Board Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhachev who remarked that every year students from Northern Caucasus federal district republics make 20–30% from the total amount of entered the region’s universities. 3 503 applicants from Northern Caucasus federal district republics entered the region’s universities in 2012, that figure makes 22,8% from the total amount of entered applicants.

The Rector of StSAU Vladimir Ivanovich Trukhachev reported about the organization of working with students belonging to different nationalities in StSAU. 18,5 thousand students are learning at the University, they represent over 60 nationalities. Initiated by the rectorate towards the strengthening of friendly relations between students of different nationalities the Inter-ethnic Students Board was established. The board holds meetings with cultural national centers and representative offices headers. Students of every ethnic group choose the leader by themselves and then they choose Boards executive. Both appointments have the status of Rector’s assistant. Rectorate’s representatives meet the ethnic groups’ leaders regularly. During such meetings they discuss painful problems and determine the tasks concerning the Board efficiency’s improvement. In cooperation with students’ core group and other autonomous bodies the Inter-Ethnic Board takes great measures regarding panel discussions, conferences, public forums and national culture festival holding.

The vice-chairman of Stavropol region government Galina Valentinovna Tkacheva highlighted, that a large proportion of Northern Caucasus federal district republics’ residents who enters the 1st full-time course of study accrues to Stavropol State Medicine University (61% first years), Pyatigorsk Branch of Volgograd State Medicine University (39,5%), Pyatigorsk State Linguistics University (30%). To the conclusion Galina Valentinovna proposed to launch the task group concerning working with students youth on the basis of Stavropol region Rectors Board. The functions of the group include development of scientific and cultural relations, cooperation with National Cultures Center, public and ethnic boards, and mass media regarding inter-ethnic relations.

By general verdict of Stavropol region Rectors Board the proposal was approved.
