FabLab "Vector" Center opening

On 9 July, 2014 at Stavropol state agrarian university the Center of youth innovative creativity of FabLab "Vector" opened in Stavropol Krai. It is urged to promote development of creative engineering thinking in the field of science and equipment during school training. Pupils will get access not only to the hi-tech equipment and necessary expendables, but also to experience of experts of domestic and international laboratories.

All pupils of Stavropol Krai interested in development of engineering skills, can come to the Center of youth innovative creativity "FabLab "Vector" and under the leadership of the staff of higher education institution realize the projects. For this purpose the Center is equipped with the most advanced equipment.

The laboratory consists of two working zones: educational and design which is completed with computers, 3D-scanner, 3D - printers, the laser machine, milling and engraving machines and other equipment, and also a production zone.

FabLab is a laboratory in which by means of the specialized equipment and the software for 3D-modeling and prototyping it is possible to create any item. The ideology consists in giving the chance to any person to make practically anything and to provide him with necessary technical support at each stage – from the sketch to a finished product. It is a question not only of access to the hi-tech equipment, but also of opportunity to get professional advice of experts.

For creation in Stavropol Krai of the Center of youth innovative creativity of FabLab "Vector" scientific SSAU Egor Kulayev and Denis Kalugin won a grant of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation of 9 million rubles.

The first FabLab appeared in the Center of bits and atoms of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) in 2001 under the leadership of the founder and the main ideologist of movement professor Neil Gershenfeld.

Development of the Russian analogs of foreign laboratories – the centers of youth innovative creativity (CYIC) – began in 2011. Even the name which they received in Russia, underlines a main objective of the program – involvement as it is possible bigger number of young people in scientific and engineering creativity, granting opportunities to them for check and commercialization of innovative ideas.
