Students and teachers of Stavropol State Agrarian University took part in the solemn meeting in memory of Stavropol citizens who liberated the country from Nazi invaders. The remains of four Stavropol fighters of the 175th Infantry Division were found nearly 70 years after the victory in Ukraine by the participants of the search troop "Let’s end the war." By the death medallions they found out the names of the Red Army soldiers. These were the soldiers of the 561th Infantry Regiment of the 174th Infantry Division: Nikolay Kienko, Vasily Shirobokov, Stepan Khromenko and Nikolai Kondratenko, who died in the first year of the war near the town of Fastov in Kiev region. Among them there is the grandfather of Natalia A. Dovgotko, teacher of the Faculty of Economics of SSAU - Stepan I. Khromenko, private soldier of provision platoon. The cause of his death is "shrapnel wound to the chest", as it is said in the examination paper. "These four men were killed by bombardment. The fight was on 19-23 August, 1941. The soldiers were walked behind, from the flank, the fight was very difficult, a lot of shrapnels, they were fired, but no one has thrown weapons, no one ran. They are heroes!"- said the coordinator of relations with the countries of the CIS and the Baltic States of Leningrad regional office of public search movement of Russia Andrey Lyaschenko. Relatives were solemnly given the military medallions and documents of the fallen.
Together with the relatives of the victims the meeting was attended by veterans, representatives of the regional government, local authorities, public organizations, Stavropol garrison.
Soviet people paid a very high price for the Victory in the Great Patriotic War - every second of 325,000 soldiers of Stavropol died a hero’s death. The fates of thousands of soldiers have remained unknown.
